April 17 – 2014 – After their boat, the “Double N” was reported stuck in ice off the northeast coast about 70 nautical miles northeast of Fogo Island, and with reduced visability, 4 sealers were airlifted to safety by a helicopter from the Joint Rescue Co-ordination Centre in Halifax. The chopper used to rescue the four sealers was a Cormorant helicopter.
The sealers had called in that an iceberg was within a few hundred meters and could crush the boat. It is not known yet about the condition or whereabouts exactly of the Double N vessel. The crew were flown to Gander.
