DFO estimates that there are about seven-million harp seals off the province and two-million of all other species of seal. Hardy says we have to capitalize on the abundance of Omega three fatty acids in seal oil.

He says seal oil has a third omega three fatty acid which is not found in any other fish. He would like to see scientists at MUN study this to see if it can address things like diabetes. If it helps, marketing seals won’t be an issue.

Mr. Hardy can also be heard discussing this issue with Jane Adey of The Broadcast on CBC radio. Click here for that podcast. Mr. Hardy can be heard 1/2 way through the podcast.
