Canadian Sealers Association meet with Federal Government on EU Ban

A meeting involving various parties involved with the Sealing Industry met in St. John’s and federal government officials  to talk about the European Union’s ban on the import of seal products to European countries.  Present were Peter Penashue, Intergovernmental Affairs Minister and International Trade Minister Ed Fast who discussed the federal government’s commitment to challenging an EU ban on trans-shipment of seal products across European nations.

The director of the Canadian Sealers’ Association, Frank Pinhorn, will address the recent poor conditions and markets the industry has faced in recent years, the high cost of maintaining a vessel to conduct a harvest like fuel and ammunition,  and overall challenges that lay ahead for the industry.
