vogue_bernie_dec2013One of the new industry players in the provincial seal harvest hopes new markets will open doors for processors here and keep many sealers happy. Owner and operator of PhocaLux International Inc., Bernie Halloran, says despite the struggles to find new markets he believes this will change with a promising market in China for seal products.

Hoping he can get between $30 – $35 a seal, Halloran has formed a partnership with the Northeast Coast Sealers Co-op,  hoping to buy up to 30,000 seals by the end of this spring and process them at the facility in Fleur de Lys, on Newfoundland’s Baie Verte Peninsula. Bernie Halloran is also hoping to get his new store open in China later this year.
