We spotted a good article by Steve Urbon, at the website South Coast Today online edition, in New England that discusses the ballooning population of seals offshore and the damaging effect they are having on their ecosystem at large. Locals involved in the fishery there are beginning to wonder if and how a cull could be possible given the lopsided opinion held by elected officials that seals must be protected under the existing Marine Mammal Protection Act.

One of the obvious impacts of a voracious seal herd, many say, is the decline in cod populations in the Gulf of Maine and Georges Bank.
