A recent radio interview shows how some western Canadian members of parliament are coming to the support of the seal harvest and industry in light of facts and figures surrounding the rebuilding of our fish stocks.

A standing committee that made several recommendations to the federal government this week to rebuild the cod stocks is calling for more science and a larger seal hunt.

The standing committee, chaired by central Newfoundland MP Scott Simms, wants a stock assessment done every year instead of the current three-year pattern. The report suggests DFO should make every effort to control the seal population. Related story here.
