April 24, 2014 – St. John’s: Ice conditions for this year’s seal harvest is proving difficult for some sealers and this will mean an elongated season that will go well into May. As of April 23 an estimated 23,000 seals have only been taken.
The four sealers rescued by last week from their vessel by the Joint Rescue Co-ordination Centre in Halifax when they feared their boat would be crushed by an approaching massive iceberg said today that their boat is fine and was brought back to Fogo intact by other sealers.
